About this event

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
An Incident Commander’s (IC) mission is to ensure that incidents are managed as effectively and safely as possible. Complex incidents are particularly challenging because they often evolve rapidly, involve significant hazards, and require innovative and coordinated solutions across multiple agencies and jurisdictions.



This 16-hour course examines the unique challenges presented by complex incidents and focuses on improving interdisciplinary coordination, collaboration, and command effectiveness. Participants will examine strategies for aligning differing operational priorities, establishing Unified Command, managing command transitions, and improving overall incident management effectiveness during high-pressure events.



Topics include:
• Overview of Complex Incidents and Initial Response Priorities
• Overview of the Multidisciplinary Response
• Establishing Unified Command
• Transfer of Command and/or the Initial Unified Command Meeting
• Strategies for Deconflicting Competing Priorities
• Enhancing Interagency Coordination and Collaboration



TARGET AUDIENCE:
This course is designed for senior personnel who are expected to function in a supervisory, command, or management capacity within an Area Command or Multiagency Coordination environment, including:

• Law Enforcement
• Fire Service
• Emergency Medical Services
• 911 Dispatch Personnel
• Emergency Management
• Public Works



PREREQUISITES:
Participants should currently serve in a supervisory or managerial role and must have completed the following FEMA Independent Study and ICS courses:

IS-100.c, FEMA Introduction to the Incident Command System, ICS-100
IS-200 c, FEMA Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response, ICS-200
IS-700.b, Introduction to the National Incident Management System (NIMS)
IS-800.d, National Response Framework (NRF), An Introduction
ICS-300
ICS-400
