What Is My BFE? – How to Find Your Base Flood Elevation Webinar
Thursday, November 7, 2019 / 2:00 PM – 3:30 PM EST
Presenter: Alex VanPelt, DOW
The Base Flood Elevation, or BFE, is the calculated elevation to which floodwater is anticipated to rise during the 1% chance base flood. The BFE has many regulatory and real world uses, including setting development standards in areas at high risk of flooding, being used in map change applications, as well as affecting insurance premiums by providing hazard information. Finding a BFE however, is not always a simple task for those that have never done it before.
This 60-minute webinar session will provide an overview of how the BFE is calculated and will show floodplain managers and other stakeholders, how to find these elevations in the Commonwealth. This session will also include a live demonstration of how to use the available tools available to floodplain managers to find these elevations. The target audience for this webinar is floodplain managers, local community officials, elected leaders, surveyors, engineers, lenders, real estate professionals, and insurance agents.
